Newstalk 1010 — CFRB

Since 1927, Newstalk 1010 (CFRB) at 1010 AM has remained one of Toronto’s most reliable sources of breaking news. Its 50,000-watt signal consistently holds up beyond the city core - from personal experience, it stays clear driving west past Oakville or north toward Barrie, which makes it especially dependable on longer commutes.

The station runs a News/Talk format, but in practice it feels more dynamic. “Moore in the Morning” stands out for its balance of sharp interviews and listener calls, setting the tone for the day. Despite the serious focus, not everything is strictly news-driven - shows like the “Sunday Morning Trivia Show” add a lighter, more approachable feel.

For regular listeners, especially drivers, the value is obvious: within minutes, you get a clear sense of what’s happening in Toronto. It’s not perfect - extended listening can feel heavy due to constant politics and opinions - but as a real-time information source, it remains highly effective and trustworthy.
