About

Country 94 (CHSJ-FM) is a local commercial radio station in Saint John, New Brunswick, broadcasting at 94.1 FM with 100 kW of power. Owned by Acadia Broadcasting, the station has a rich history: it launched on AM in March 1928 as CFBO, changed its call sign to CHSJ in 1934, and moved to FM in early 1998. Its core audience is listeners aged 25–54.

The station’s biggest strength is its live interaction and charismatic hosts. Krista Hamm keeps the evening energy going, while Mark Downey remains a true station anchor, having been inducted into the New Brunswick Country Music Hall of Fame in October 2025. Mark hosts daytime shifts and a Sunday classic country show, building a genuine connection with the city through calls, contests and discussions of local news.

The music format blends current hits with country classics: Shaboozey’s smash hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy),” Canadian stars such as Brett Kissel and Jade Eagleson, the timeless “Strawberry Wine” by Deana Carter, and tracks by Luke Bryan and Morgan Wallen.

According to the most recent public Numeris market reports (fall 2021), Country 94 comfortably outperformed its competitors, ranking first in Saint John among listeners aged 12+ with a 25.2% share, and among men aged 25–54 with a 23.2% share. Its daytime audience reaches 25,000–35,000 listeners. Fast local news, charitable initiatives and involvement in community events all contribute to that reach.

Acadia News journalists have received RTDNA Canada awards on several occasions, while the station itself is regularly nominated for Country Station of the Year at the CCMA and ECMA awards.

In the local market, Country 94 shares a building with sister station CHWV-FM (97.3 The Wave) and competes with K100 (CIOK-FM). While K100 tends to be more of a background station in offices, Country 94 stands out through its active interaction with listeners and strong appeal among male listeners. The only downside is its heavy commercial load, with advertising blocks running up to 10–14 minutes per hour during the daytime.
